The history of Sicis mosaic panels
The history of Sicis mosaic panels dates back to 1988, when entrepreneur Maurizio Leo Plakuzzi gathered a team of mosaic artists from the Academy of Fine Arts and founded a factory for the production of Sicis mosaics. The production technology of the 15×15 mm mosaic module includes blowing out the glass mass, followed by cutting colored glass into small fragments, quenching and cooling. The palette of Sicis tiles can consist of more than 600 different shades.
Sicis panels are made by hand in the technique of chopping – each piece of the mosaic is cut with a special tool to the desired shape and size and fits into the overall picture or panel.
The first catalog was “Flower Power” – the power of flowers. Huge bright images of flowers: daisies, hyacinths, lilies, forget-me-nots and even flowering cacti, made of glass, decorated the interiors of hotels, restaurants, residential buildings. Not only colored glass is used in mosaics, but also stone, foil mosaic, as well as natural gold leaf.
The company has now released more than 20 different thematic mosaic catalogs. It is impossible to buy a ready–made Sicis mosaic panel – all mosaics are made to order according to individual sizes. The price of the mosaic panels from the Sicis factory is also calculated individually for each project. In addition to classic works, the factory offers its customers catalogs of designer furniture in fabrics imitating mosaics, decorative items: mirrors, dishes, vases, lights and even watches and jewelry with micromosaic.
